The Drugs Are Working is a blog created to share live recordings from bands that I taped from 2002 through 2006 in Dallas/Ft Worth/Denton, Texas area. Also, I'm back from the break so look for the new stuff.

To date I have recorded 166 performances. I will post those shows that I recorded in absolutely no obvious order.

I don't care if you repost my work onto other boards but at least give me credit on your post and direct the link here to download the show. Help spread the word.

Let me know if you find any dead links and I'll repost it.

The Brian Jonestown Massacre live in Dallas TX - August 13, 2005 - CPR-141

I had originally planned never to share this as it's not a typical BJM show. However, several people have asked for it...so here it is.

But first here's the story.

BJM had been continuously touring the US in 2005 and finally made their way to Texas in August when Anton lost his voice. After the Dallas show he canceled the rest of the tour. However, instead of canceling Dallas for the 2nd time in two years he decided to try to put on a show. Anton came out and told everyone that he's lost his voice but they were going to try something different.

So for the next 45 minutes we got one long continuous incredible jam session. When that was over Anton brought up fans from the audience to sing. Then, he brought out Rob Campanella from The Quarter After, who used to play in BJM to help with the vocal duties. Anton said something like lets leave it to the professionals, referring to the fans that couldn't sing/perform very well. For the finale they did another long jam session.

When the show started the venue was completely packed but people started leaving during the long jam sessions and when they realized that they weren't going to get a typical BJM show. By the time the show was over there was only a fraction of the audience left. Some people just don't get it. This was such a train wreck of a show but it was truly something special. They pulled something off that most bands couldn't. I didn't leave feeling disappointed in the least but I've seen the band before and have heard enough bootlegs that I don't feel like I really missed out on anything. Rather I really enjoyed this show and it's one of the most memorable ones I've ever seen.

Enjoy the show.

Here is a link to a review of the show with pictures, here.

Amazing Electronic Talking Cave

Here's a new band I just found out about. Amazing Electronic Talking Cave are a mix between JAMC & BJM and they pull it off.

I don't know if they have officially issue their first album but I was able to downloaded it, Green Maiden, from somewhere so I'm sure you won't have a problem finding it. Just Google it.

I'd recommend listening to 21st Century Jesus and My Generation from their myspace page.

The Koolaid Electric Company live in Doncaster, UK - July 7, 2007

Here's a great recording from The Koolaid Electric Company.

I received a link for this download from the taper. It was originally made available on the BJM forum by Sam from the band. I was also told that the original lineup has changed slightly since this recording.

Enjoy the show.

CAT-A-TAC

These guys have my vote for one of the worst band names ever but they also get my vote for one of the best new bands out there. Their Myspace page says they are from Denver and their website shows that they play a lot of shows there but they are getting out. In July they are making their way to Tulsa, OK, I might have to make a rode trip. They have played with Black Angels, Darker My Love, Deathray Davies...

They have released an EP titled "CAT-A-TAC" and a full length album titled "Past Lies And Former Lives". You can download both from iTunes.

The Koolaid Electric Company

I've been waiting for the first official release from this band for a long time. They just released their first EP, titled The Koolaid Electric Company...very original huh. I'd highly recommend everyone to get it. It's sick. Oh they just announced a opening slot on the Warlocks UK tour. Somebody please record a show.

Speaking of...anyone have any live recordings by these guys? Please email or post a link in comments or in the chatbox. Thx.

Swervedriver live in Hollywood, CA - May 31, 2008

Edit: Beware, the first song is from a completely different show. The taper accidentally mixed up two different recordings. I don't know if he's going to fix the link or not. Also, there's a second source out there. Look on bittorrent sites like Dimeadozen.

Here's a somewhat decent recording of a recent Swervedriver show.
It's sounds OK if you blast it. People should get some good gear if they are going to record. Hopefully there will be a better recording surface sometime.
